An infrequent log of anything but not everything in my mobile world.

Bar code reading mobiles

My personal QR code

There has been some talk recently in KEITAI-L about the 2D code reading ability of some 505 series mobiles. The 2D code in question is the QR code which can hold up to 7,089 characters. That's quite a bit of information in a tiny square you can stick just about anywhere.

The newest rendition of my personal card sports a 12mm square QR code that my SH505i is able to read it in even the darkest of drinking establishments. While the SH505i does highlight any URL or email address it finds in a QR code, one sore point is it interprets all QR code data as plain text so I'm unable to import a vCard contact directly via the QR code. I hope future models will be able to detect both vCard and vCalendar (iCal) standard data.

There are plenty of potential applications for this technology even if just as an easy way to enter long URLs into your mobile.
